Cancer Awareness Course continues to be a success!
County Durham and Darlington Health Improvement Training Team’s OCN accredited Level 2 Cancer Awareness course is continuing to be a success with learners throughout the region. The course has been running since March 2011 and will continue into 2012.
The course informs individuals about the signs and symptoms of breast, bowel and lung cancers, the NHS cancer screening programmes and cancer support services available to everyone.
Vicky Moffat from Health Improvement Team said “The Cancer Awareness course has attracted people from a wide range of backgrounds from community members and volunteers, to occupational health workers and practice nurses.”
The course features the use of prosthetics to help with self- examination techniques, designing health campaigns, case studies, social marketing and client pathways studies. As each learner’s experience of cancer is different, group discussion and sensitivity to each learners needs is taken into account.
Undertaking the course enables the learners to raise awareness within their community, workplace or with clients and offer up to date information and signposting to the services available.
Excellent feedback has been received from the learners, with many learners recommending the course to colleagues, friends and family members.
All learners who complete the course receive an OCN Level 2 Certificate in Cancer Awareness
