Celebrating Achievements of Women at WHiST (Womens Health in South Tyneside)

There was a very positive atmosphere at WHiST for the celebration of members’ achievements event on Tuesday 8th June 2010. Members and staff of the project were joined by colleagues from Adult Community Learning (ACL), the BIG Lottery, Open College Network (OCN) North East Region, South Tyneside Libraries and the Workers Educational Association (WEA).

Women from WHiST were presented with certificates by Louise Morrit from OCN who congratulated the women’s achievements in returning to education and gaining nationally recognised certificates.

The partnership between WHiST and OCN works positively to enable women to learn in a non traditional educational environment and to learn at their own pace. Women received certificates in Volunteer Skills, Assertiveness, Aromatherapy (Level 1, 2 & 3), Homeopathy and Indian Head Massage.

Volunteers at WHiST were acknowledged for their contribution to learning through their roles as Tutor Assistants. In their role they provide support to both tutors and learners to help women work toward certificates.

The afternoon was a great opportunity for staff, volunteers, members and partnership agencies to acknowledge the achievements of women in the Borough and to see the positive impact of their involvement with WHiST.
