Childs play matters

An OCN North East Region accredited course developed by Pennywell Neighbourhood Centre, for parents to gain new skills in child development through play, has led to two parents continuing their learning whilst gaining employment in an early years’ setting.

The course, covering topics including child development, routines, behaviour, heuristic play, bonding and attachment, equality and diversity, was delivered in an interactive style. Through practical activity, learners were able to put their skills into practice within their own nursery settings.

By the end of the course, eleven learners attained OCN Level One and a further six went onto achieve OCN Level Two.

Several learners successfully secured posts within an early years’ setting. Phyllis Watson and Eileen Brown are two learners currently employed in the Community Childcare Project at Pennywell Neighbourhood Centre.
