1. How do I add or remove a unit from a course?
To add or remove a unit from a course, you need to complete the Course Amendment Form and send it to qats@ocnner.org.uk
If you wish to add a unit that another OCN has approved, this may take longer to process than usual – your Quality Accreditation Manager will explain the process in full.
back to top2. How do I find a Unit on your website?
Using the search on the right, you can search by keyword, the unit code (if you know it), or by Credit Value. The results of your search will be returned in a list of units, and from there you can open each one and print it if you require.
back to top3. How do I find a Unit on the NOCN website?
On the NOCN website click on products/unit bank (NOCN). You can then search by module or by keyword/unit code. If you are looking for a specific unit and you know the qualification that the unit is in, it may be easier to use the module search. Otherwise, the keyword search may be the simplest option. The search result tells you the qualification (called programme in the table) the unit is from, the pathway and whether the unit is core or optional.
back to top4. What’s the difference between a local and a national/qualification unit?
Local units are written and recognised to reflect local needs. They are written in the same format as qualification units using the same definitions of credit and level. They are also subject to the same quality assurance process. This type of unit can be used in local individualised courses where no appropriate qualification is available or where a bespoke unit is required by the centre. Local units can also be delivered alongside qualification units to enhance the learning experience of the learners. Local units can be recognised by their unique unit codes for example: AA1/1/TE/001, AA1/1/TY/001 or AA1/1/NO/001. All of our local units are coded with TE, TY or NO.
Units contained in a NOCN qualification (called national or qualification units) are approved by QCA and therefore recognised nationally. They can be delivered, achieved and accredited individually. This makes NOCN qualifications flexible, because learners will receive their unit accreditation on achievement and can then build on that achievement to complete the full qualification over time. A national or qualification unit is recognised by its unit code for example: AA1/1/QQ/001. All national units are coded with QQ.
back to top5. What if I can't find an existing Unit that meets my learners' needs?
See the section on Bespoke Units
back to top6. How much does it cost to create a new unit?
£50 per unit. See our Fees and Charges.
back to top7. What is the unit code?
Each unit is assigned its own unique code, for instance AA1/1/TE/001.
AA1 The first three letters relate to the sector that the unit is assigned to (in this case Business, Management and Office Studies/ Business and Finance (general).
1 The second number is the Level of the Unit.
TE The third set of letters is the classification of the OCN that approved the unit.
001 The final set of numbers is a unique identifier for the unit.
